Wedding photo album

Why printing your photos is so important? This topic is near to my heart. I know that may seem like a silly thing to say is near and dear to me, but think about it for a moment. How many of us grew up lovingly staring at our parents’ wedding photos? Or a picture of our grandparents when they were much younger? Or a photo of ourselves when we were little? I guarantee that each and every one of you has a photo that you can think of right now that is special to you.

There is something different about printed photos versus seeing it digitally on an iPhone or laptop. Similar to how the weight of a hardcover book or a pencil feels different than reading and typing on a phone. It makes me feel more connected to these things and photos are no exception. I know that so many of us had baby books growing up or albums that covered shelves in our homes full of family vacations, birthday parties, buying a new car, and the list goes on and on. But albums aren’t as much of a thing these days.

Growing up, my mom took so many photos of us and had albums that we were always able to physically open up and touch. I’m so thankful that my mom had those. I take millions of photos of my kids, but I don’t have any albums for them to view. Honestly I don’t have photos on the wall and I’m a photographer! I get so used to having them captured in my phone and not taking the time to print them. Or I’ll say “I’ll get these printed later” but it never happens.

I know that as a photographer we typically deliver our client’s digital images. It’s the way of the world and I do love the ease of it! The fact that you can send grandma the link super quickly and download an image straight to your phone to share on Facebook is amazing!! Files can be lost and phones can be destroyed. Computers and hard drives can break down and then what do you do when those photos are lost? It’s a huge insurance policy in my opinion to have your photos printed for safety reasons!

Believe me, I love technology. I love that I can see photos instantly on the back of my camera, instead of having to wait to develop the film. Netflix is right in my home so I don’t have to record shows on VHS tapes. Hello!! We live in a world with GrubHub and DoorDash! However, there is magic to some things of the past. I believe we should hold onto them a little tighter in our present, and one of those is prints.

So I encourage each and every one of you to print photos. Hang them up in your home so that you can see them every day! Start collecting albums again so you can flip through them! Start small with printing your wedding photos in an album and a few family photos for the wall. You could even start making it a ritual a few times a year. Print out your phone photos into albums!
