Get to know Jennifer, your Destin Photographer. I’m so happy to have you all on my blog each week and reading all about weddings, elopements, and my inside tips and tricks for you! I felt like this week it was time to let you guys learn more about me, how I became a photographer, and overall how I ended up where I am today. I do have an About Me page but this blog is going to be a deeper dive into my story. I’m so happy you’ve decided to be a part of it! 

So many of you may know that I am a Destin wedding photographer but you may not know how I got here and that’s what I want to tell you about today. The first thing you should know about me is that I am a big city girl and have always been in love with all the city vibes. I was born in San Diego, CA and while I moved around later in life, I’ll always consider San Diego home.

When I was 3 years old, my mom married a man I consider my DAD. We moved every few years because he was in the Navy. Fun Fact, I even lived in Japan for a few years. While in school I played clarinet, a cheerleader, and a high school football manager/water girl! 

Growing up, I always thought I would be a nurse and that’s exactly what I did! I became a Nurse and loved helping people. I’m actually still a Nurse! Yep, when I’m not photographing weddings and portraits I am at a hospital in my scrubs. I had always been an artsy person as well and here is where photography came into my life. It started out with cell phone photos of my kids. Yes, cell phone photos! My husband said he wanted to get me a decent camera so I could take more photos of our kids. That’s when I started watching Youtube videos and practicing taking photos of my kids, our friends, and family. I started doing model calls and eventually started charging very small fees. 

My photography journey started with taking portraits of my kids, I always thought I would be a family portrait photographer. Then I booked my first wedding. They paid me a few hundred dollars and I was hooked. I’m a very emotional person and weddings bring me so much joy! I’m the person who cries at all the movies and I seriously cry at every wedding I photograph. 

The past year I started going to styled shoots put on by other photographers. I absolutely loved how it got my creative juices flowing. Currently, I do a lot of styled shoots on my own to push myself out of the box and to also give my clients inspiration for their own weddings. I am a Destin wedding photographer which means a lot of beach and destination weddings, which I absolutely love! I like showing my client’s inspiration/ideas to make their beach wedding unique to them!
